Editorial leader with 10+ years of experience across diverse publications, revolutionary startups, and essential organizations. Worked in media production, general news, local news, health, lifestyle, entertainment, publishing operations, government, and performing arts. Known for building and running diverse teams of writers and editors based on meticulously researched audience engagement data. Intermediate knowledge of Spanish. Passionate about accuracy in journalism, personal health, and counterculture at large. Leads and works across departments with empathy and transparency. Casually obsessed with giraffes, tinsel, rollerblading, cultivating a black & white wardrobe, carefully curating mixtapes, and creating collages out of old magazines. Totally normal human.
I may have been an oddball growing up. Who am I kidding? I definitely was.
I was the kid who willingly locked himself in his bedroom to be alone with his books and his thoughts. But while I was in there, I would secretly obsess over understanding the mechanics of relationships between different kinds of people. I’d spend hours creating personas for pencils and crayons, watching the drama unfold like my own miniature soap opera. I didn’t want toys modeled after characters from popular movies or TV shows—I wanted my toys to tell their own stories. I wanted originality.
That craving for originality defined me.
It led me to pursue a double undergraduate degree in theatre and writing, alongside training in performance art and experimental theatre at HB Studios in NYC’s Greenwich Village. New York quickly pulled me out of my ‘solitary confinement’ phase. I was eager to explore how stories could be told, how communication could be reshaped, and, on a more practical note, how many friends’ couches I could call home while chasing a career in performance art.
But eventually, I wanted more. I wanted to dive deeper into storytelling that could make a lasting impact. I wanted to create stories that inspired meaningful change.
That’s why, in the summer of 2008, I packed my bags and moved to San Francisco with no place to live, zero contacts, and the determination to start a graduate program focused on journalism and how storytelling can drive social impact. San Francisco embraced me in ways I could have never imagined, helping me find a family of freethinkers and offering opportunities to support causes I cared about deeply.
Since then, I’ve spent over a decade in leadership roles centered around my passion for storytelling. I’ve led editorial teams to craft groundbreaking newsletters and online content with organizations like 6AM City, Storehouse, Ripple, Archive Productions, Hoodline, and Ask Media Group. I’ve inspired people to champion social justice causes while working with The San Francisco Foundation, San Francisco City Hall, AIDS Walk San Francisco, and Partners in School Innovation. I’ve encouraged people to take control of their mental health and wellness as a managing editor with Eaze and Healthline.
Today, I continue to freelance with SF-based publications, guest lecture for journalism students at universities, and volunteer with The GLBT Historical Society.
With every role, I’ve refined my ability to calculate which stories resonate most within social and political landscapes and to determine the best way to package and present each narrative. By collaborating with editorial, data, production, and design teams, I’ve been able to create content that speaks from the heart while maintaining a purpose-driven focus.
I’m deeply committed to amplifying the voices of marginalized and underrepresented communities, including the LGBTQ community, the invisible illness and disability communities, and San Francisco’s arts, culture, and nightlife scene. I’m drawn to organizations that value storytelling and diverse perspectives—places where outside-the-box thinkers can help educate and inspire. I hope I can do that with you.
